I am writing to strongly support the nomination of Seth Finkelstein for an EFF Pioneer Award at this year's CFP. I am a lawyer for the ACLU and have been involved in all of the major Internet free speech cases for the last several years. In particular, I was one of the lawyers representing web sites in the library censorship case, Mainstream Loudoun v. Board. I am also in the process of developing several other library censorship cases.

In the course of doing internet censorship litigation, I have frequently called upon members of the Censorware Project for assistance. Until Mr. Tyre's letter nominating Mr. Finkelstein for this award, I did not know the extent of Mr. Finkelstein's personal involvement in this process. I did know that the information we received from the Project was consistently reliable and extremely helpful. Now that I have learned the specifics of Mr. Finkelstein's work, I think an award to him for that work, and his long resistance to internet censorship, is well deserved.

Feel free to call me if you have any questions about this nomination.
